Are There Really Any Bad Ideas?

Of course there are many bad ideas. Lots of them.

But, would you like to know what the most common indicator for finding great ideas is? It's having many ideas

Well why should I have many ideas when I just need one solution? you might ask.

Because of this: Many people mistakenly believe that the key to coming up with good ideas is to limit the quantity of ideas that you generate.

The thinking goes that if you generate too many ideas, the quality of those ideas will suffer. But in reality, the opposite is true. The more ideas you generate, the better your chances are of coming up with a truly great idea.

Here's why.

When you're trying to come up with a great idea, you're essentially looking for a needle in a haystack. The more needles you have to choose from, the better your chances are of finding the one that's perfect for your needs.

So instead of trying to limit the number of ideas you generate, embrace quantity and allow yourself to be as creative as possible.

Once you have a big list of possibilities to work with, you can start narrowing things down and making decisions about which ideas are worth pursuing further.
